Evolve Skateboards – Bamboo ONE Electric Longboard Skateboard Review

There are only a few things in life that can compare to the thrill and fun that comes with riding an electric powered skateboard or longboard.  If you are a complete beginner and would like to learn how to ride one, the Bamboo ONE Electric longboard is the perfect one to start on your adventure.

Features and Specifications

The Powerful Motor

The ONE in this longboard’s name pertains to the single motor that it uses. The motor is situated at the rear of the board and it is connected via a belt drive to one of the wheels.

The surprising thing about the Bamboo ONE electric longboard’s single motor is that it is incredibly powerful. The motor can pump out up to 2000 watts of power, which is more than enough power to allow this board to keep up with other electric boards that have dual electric motors like the Boosted 2nd Gen Dual+ Standard Range Electric Skateboard.

However, the Bamboo ONE does not have as much torque as the dual in-hub motor boards, like the BACKFIRE New G2 Electric Longboard with G2T New Motors and ESC. This board can only go up 20% grade streets.

The Beefy Battery

The Bamboo ONE has a battery that has a large capacity. With one full charge, it can power the board to travel distances up to 20 miles, which is more than five miles more than some of the other more popular boards like the BACKFIRE New G2 Electric Longboard with G2T New Motors and ESC.

Using the included battery charger, you can fully charge the Bamboo ONE in three and a half hours. However, if you purchase the Evolve quickcharger, the charging time goes down to just 80 minutes.

Wheels and Trucks

The Bamboo ONE has phenomenal stability thanks to the 12-inch trucks and 83mm wheels that keep the board close to the ground. This makes it quite easy for riders of all skating skill levels to learn how to ride this electric longboard.

The Good

Single motor has more than enough power to spare

Even though the Bamboo ONE has just one electric motor, it has a maximum power output of 2000 watts, which is more than enough power for an electric longboard. This motor is more than enough to propel the board to speeds up to 22 miles per hour, and climb hills with 25% grade.

However, you need to keep in mind that the motor is attached to just one rear wheel, so if you were to push the throttle all the way from a standing start, the board will tend to wobble a bit, but it will straighten out after a while.

You do not have to give the board a kickstart even, you can just stand on the board, pull back on the remote trigger, and plant your feet firmly on the board.

The board gives a very stable ride

It does not matter how much experience that you have riding skateboards, you will easily learn how to ride the Bamboo ONE after just a couple of practice runs. The 12-inch trucks and 83mm wheels provide enough stability that you will not have any trouble carving or just cruising through the city streets.

If you are thinking of getting a beginner board that is not nerfed so much that it is not fun to ride anymore, then you need to get the Evolve Bamboo ONE right now!

The Bad

There are design elements in the board that are useless

The deck has a kick tail, but you cannot really use it because the motor is mounted in the rear. If you try to use the kick tail you will scuff up the motor housing. If the motor was mounted in the middle of the board then the kick tail would have made some sense. As it is, the kicktail is just for looks.

The remote control is designed poorly

The functionality of the remote controller is good, it is the design of the trigger that makes it fail. The biggest issue is that there are not trigger guards or locks. If you are not careful, the trigger might get caught in your clothes and unintentionally push it forward while going full tilt causing you to wipeout on the pavement.

Who is It For?

The excellent mileage that the Bamboo ONE has makes it a great alternative mode of transportation for those living in the city. If your daily commute used to include riding a cab for six to seven blocks, you can save your fare and just ride the entire way on your electric longboard; it might even be faster since you do not have to deal with gridlock rush hour traffic.

Conclusion

The Evolve Bamboo ONE is an electric longboard that is perfect for beginners, but that does not mean that it is not suitable for intermediate or expert riders. Although this longboard only has one motor, it can produce 2000 watts of power, which can easily propel the board to speeds of more than 20 miles per hour, which is more than fast enough for people who have extensive experience riding longboards.

Although the Bamboo ONE is far from perfect, it still ranks as one of the best electric longboards available.
